“I think that's all we need senator. Thank you for your time.” Merrick’s tone was dry. He definitely hiding something and certainly knows more than he’s saying.
"Anytime detective." Senator Reed replied with a smile.
Before Merrick could finish his notes Chris turned his attention to Mya.
“Ms. Anderson, if you have some time while we have you here if it's alright with you can we ask you some questions also. Informally of course.”
“That's absurd!” Brian exclaimed.
“You have absolutely no premise and damn sure no authority to question the fucking D.A!”
I have to agree with Brian, I agreed to be questioned to help facilitate the investigation but there is no reason for you to question my daugh…Ms. Anderson.
“I’m going to have to agree with the Stephen and Brian on this Chris what possible reason could you have to question the senator's daughter who happens to be the fucking D.A?” Commissioner Taylor asked looking quite perturbed.
Before he could answer Mya interjected. “It’s ok. I don't mind. I’m certain it’s due to my family’s close connection to the Macalister’s. The detectives are doing their jobs.”
“Fair enough, but I’ll handle the questioning with the lieutenant as a witness, in the mean time Chris can continue the informal inquires of the others that way we can salvage what’s left of the weekend and begin again tomorrow” commissioner Taylor stated quite bluntly.
Hell yes, Chris thought. “I’m on it,“ he said before quickly left the room. Senator Reed leaned back in his seat silently indicating that he was not leaving. And nobody expected him to. Mya was his daughter after all.
“I have some calls to make, I'll see you in a bit Mya," Brian said as he followed Chris out of the room.
Mya nodded and turned to face the commissioner. “Ok, Mr. Taylor ready when you are.”
Q1. Ms. Anderson, how well did you know congressman Jake Macalister?
A1. He was a friend of my…Mr. Reed.
Q2. So you were pretty close with the family.
A2. No, I wasn't. Mr. Reed was.
Q3. Where were you on the night the congressman was killed?
A3. I was at work late that night and I then went to dinner with Brian and his fiancé.
Q4. “And what about last night into early this morning?”
Fuck, he had to ask her that shit. Fuck it. It’s informal maybe she’ll make something up. Merrick thought uneasily.
Mya smiled and looked at Merrick before answering. It was the first time she looked directly at him since they left her place.
One look, and he knew what she was thinking. Oh, fuck here it comes. He braced himself for the words.
A4. I was with Mr. Boivin at his place.
The commissioner’s jaw dropped and he shifted uneasily in his chair clearing his throat in the process, he didn't want to continue but he had no choice.
Q5. Did you have um…any business with the detective?
A5. Well Paul, unlike some people, I don't consider fucking business. I was with Mr. Boivin all night fucking into early this morning strictly for pleasure. Paul. We were together when I receive the call from
Brian about Margret. He’s hung like a horse; I barely made it out of bed this morning. It was half true at least.
Every ounce of blood seemed to instantaneously drain from the commissioner’s face. He looked at Merrick both in disbelief and seeking confirmation. Merrick obliged by simply nodding his head.
What the fuck Mya! Shit. I wasn’t expecting that. Of all the women I had to fuck the obviously off her rockers but insanely hot D.A. Merrick managed to maintain his infamous stoic expression. It wasn't every day that a woman he was fucking blurted out the sorted details of their tryst in a room filled with people and her father who happens to be a senator.
The revelation was not intended to shock Senator Reed but he surmised that was probably Mya’s intention. He was secretly delighted that his daughter was finally involved with someone after all these years.
He quickly recovered, “Listen…Paul, lieutenant Boivin, I would like to remind you that this conversation is completely off the record and under no circumstances should anything said inside this room especially anything about my daughter’s personal life ever be repeated from anyone either in or outside of this room.”
“Of course Senator,” Paul hastily agreed.
The senator turned his attention to Merrick. “Detective Boivin is it? Can I have a word in private?”
“Certainly senator.” Merrick’s response was nonchalant. It wasn't as if he raped or beat Mya by her own admission their sex was consensual.
Mya watched as they both arose from their seats and retreated to the hall. She couldn't help but feel a twinge of remorse for putting Merrick on the spot. Shit, I'll apologize later but in the meantime, I can bask in the victory of fucking with Stephen, I should probably text my mom, she should hear this from me.
Mya - Hey mom how are you doing? I took your advice and I was really nice to Stephen.
Shirley -that sounds dubious Mya. What did you do?
Mya - I haven't done anything mother. By the way, I'm seeing someone. I was with him yesterday.
We had an informal inquiry today so I
had to mention it in front of Stephen and few other people.
Shirley – Informal? Obviously, because we knew the Macalister’s. What do you mean a few people? How many?
Mya - Four or five people.
Shirley – Including your dad?
Mya – Yes…. mother, including your husband.
Shirley – LOL! That must’ve been something. You never fail to shock my sweet baby girl. Well, what’s done is done when do I get to meet him?
Mya – Name the place, day and time mother
Shirley – I’ll let you know sometime this week. Love you
Mya-Love you more Shirley

Chapter 5
Mya felt a little better about the situation after texting her mom. She didn't want her finding out about Merrick from Stephen. She looked at the door and was seriously tempted to interrupt Stephens’s “mano a man”o chat with Merrick. She couldn't help but be slightly amused.
In the hall Merrick and Stephen man to man wasn't going anywhere. Stephen leaned against the wall while trying to find the right words. In one hand Mya was an adult, but she was still his little girl and her reputation was finally on the mend after the outlandish affair scandal several years ago.
He was elated that she was finally seeing someone who for all intents and purposes seemed worthy. Well, at least his daughter thought so. If Mya was serious about him then he didn't want to make waves. After some brief soul searching, he decided to be a father instead of a politician.
Merrick stood a few feet away from him waiting for the “stay away from my daughter speech.” He was no stranger to over protective fathers but he never came across
one as powerful as Stephen Reed. Not that he gave two fucks either way but he knew that regardless of what the man had to say he was not staying away from Mya.
Stephen stood up crossing his arms defensively in front of him. The two men glared at each other neither backing down. Finally, Stephen spoke, “Agent Boivin, my daughter means everything to me, I trust that you will look out for her safety.”
“Of course, Senator.”
"Good, let's have dinner sometime soon. My wife Shirley will want to meet you."
“I’ll run it past Mya after the meeting”
“Wonderful, let's get this day over with shall we?"
Stephen extended his hand and the two men seemed to silently agree that Mya was the priority.
When they walked back into the room Mya was carelessly scrolling through her phone but everyone else was noticeably on edge.
Stephen motioned to his assistant that they
were leaving and then he announced that the meeting was concluded.
Mya looked up annoyingly at Merrick
and then Stephen. “Men," she thought. Ok, it’s time to get the fuck out of this dismal ass room. Now I have two fucking things to explain to Merrick. Oh, fucking well what's done is done. She got up with the intent of going to find Brian. As she grabbed her things and tossed them into her black Hermes bag she was met with Merrick’s penetrating gaze. She shoved it off, there wasn't a damn thing he could do to her right now anyway.
She continued what she was doing and without looking up she wished the senator a safe flight back home. In return, he gave his daughter a warm smile as he walked from the room he turned around and replied, “It’s always a pleasure daughter, thank you for another memorable meeting and you should call your mother.”
Stephen was referring to a previous dignitary meeting when his spirited spawn referred to the Mayor as a whore-mongering troll.
“Way ahead of you Stephen,” she replied, smiling as she recalled the incident he was referring to.
Merrick was giving serious thought to wringing Mya’s pretty little neck. As he closed the gap between them Paul approached him looking particularly frantic.
“Detective a word.” What the fuck! Another pep talk great. “Paul now is not a good time I’ve got to catch up with Chris and head back.” By the time he finished the statement the room was cleared giving Paul more than enough space to get all the shit he needed off his chest. Paul got straight to the point.
“What the fuck lieutenant! You let me walk face first into the steaming pile of shit. You could’ve told me that you were sleeping with the fucking D.A. Do you like your job? Because I’ve got a wife and kids, I need my fucking pension. Do you have any idea what senator Stephen fucking Reed could do to both our careers?”
“Paul, I have no idea who the fuck you think you’re talking to but you need to calm your ass the fuck down! My personal life is my personal life and with all due respect, Mya
does whatever the fuck she wants. And remind me again how this is your concern?” “Good point….All night huh?” Paul said barely able to hide the lust in his eyes or amazement.
"I can't say I don't envy you, she is something. Guess she isn't a dike, after all, shit there goes my girl on girl fantasy."
Merrick resisted the urge to punch Paul's face in. He didn't appreciate him talking about Mya that way or meddling in his person affairs. Mya was his.
What the fuck! Why am I referring to her as mine?”
Paul was intrigued by the situation but simultaneously scared shitless. He heard stories about Stephen Reed and none of them nice. He was a ruthless son of a bitch. The man had both the resources and ability to end their lives and careers if he wanted. Although he wanted nothing more than to press Merrick for all the sorted details he knew it was a bad idea all around. He decided the less he knew the better. Stephen Reed was Merrick’s problem.
The day was unusually long like most Sundays and by the end everyone was tired and just wanted it to end. Thankfully the helicopter ride was short, approximately less than forty-five minutes.
The last thing Merrick remembered after boarding the helicopter was closing his eyes; whatever Chris was prattling on about fell on deaf ears. He closed his eyes and thought about Mya. She was actually all he thought about since he first laid eyes on her. It became obvious that she was not like other women he dated in the past before he knew it his thoughts turned to sleep.
When the pilot announced their final descent back to New York, Merrick, finally woke up. When he opened his eyes Mya’s face was the first he saw. To his delight, she was looking at right at him. He wondered what she was thinking. The pangs of desire swelled within hm. What the fuck did she do to me? A single look from her aroused the sexual beast within him. He wondered if she would come home with him tonight so they could finish what they started earlier.
They landed a few minutes later. As soon as he removed his headgear Chris
seemed to pick up where he left off.
“What the fuck dude, were you sleeping the whole time? Did you hear anything I said? I was so shit faced last night that I had to take a cab here this morning can you give me a ride home?”
Chris’s request posed a bit of a problem for Merrick. He had intended to drive Mya back home since they drove in together that morning. There was no way he could take Mya home with Chris in the vehicle or maybe he was overthinking it.
Before he could reply he heard a familiar voice beckoning him from behind; it was Mya.
“Mr. Boi…I mean Merrick, do you have a minute?” In true Mya fashion, she didn't wait for him to respond. The pointed look she gave Chris was enough for him to leave.
Merrick smiled devilishly. “How may I be of assistance Ms. Anderson? I was wondering how long it would take before
you explained yourself.”
Mya averted her eyes and took a deep breath before answering. She couldn't help it she didn't want to admit it to herself but he made her weak. Looking into his eyes would be her undoing right now.
“Merrick, I wanted to apologize for earlier. I shouldn’t have volunteered the details of our night together with so many people especially in the presence of my father. I hope he didn't give you any shit for it.”
He shoved his hands into his jacket before replying. It was the only thing he could do to refrain from reaching for her. “All is forgiven Mya…. if you have dinner with me tonight that way we can continue our conversation from this morning in private” It was a risky move but he didn't care all she could do is say no.
She thought about his request momentarily. Fuck it I'll have dinner with him again. Then maybe I can ask him about dinner with mom. What's the worst that can happen? You know exactly what’s the worst that can and probably will happen. The memory of their lovemaking played in her head…it made her blush.
“I don't see why not, it's the least I can do after today.”
Merrick was shocked by her response but more interested in what she was thinking about that made her blush so sweetly. He knew better than to probe besides they were under the close gaze of Brian and Chris.
Oh yeah…. Shit.. Chris… he needs a ride. Fuck him he can take a cab. I need to ride Mya long and hard.
“Give me a few minutes to wrap things up with Brian?”
“Yeah, um would you mind if we dropped Chris off first, he took a cab in this morning.”
“I don't see why not, Merrick.” She turned and walked over to where Brian was standing a few feet away.
“Mya, is everything ok? Brian asked. He was seriously concerned, Mya looked flustered. What the fuck was that little chat about? That asshole Merrick was moving in on his prize. Brian was more than a little
perturbed by Mya and Merrick’s private conversations. They seemed to be happening way too often.
“Yep, I’m good Brian.” She answered nonchalantly.
She was blowing him off but he knew better than to pry.
"Ok, come on, I'll give you a ride home."
“Thanks, Brian but I already have a ride, I'll see you tomorrow, we’ve got a lot of shit to cover. Oh by the way, how did the rest of the interviews go? You know what scratch that I’m beat well get into it tomorrow. Enjoy the rest of your day.”
She turned and walked back toward Merrick leaving Brian seething at the thought of them together. The two began their short trek to Merrick’s car. Neither of them gave Brian a second glance.
Chapter 6
“Can I take that from you, my love you look tired”, Merrick asked teasingly as he reached for her bag not waiting for a response. “You remember where I parked this morning?” he asked smiling.
“Where did Chris go?”
“He got a call from his wife so he walked ahead.”
“My love? I’m sorry are we using terms of endearment to refer to each now, Mr. Boivin?”
“Mr. Boivin..hmm, I thought I asked you to call me Merrick? Well, I assumed that since you announced our er…private moments together to your father that it would be wise if I were to at least try to make an honest woman out of you
.”
Mya laughed out loud at the statement. “Merrick, I assure you that I’m the most honest woman that you will ever encounter and as far as my father is concerned you needn’t worry about what he thinks but my
mother, on the other hand, she is an entirely different issue.
